O Best Flights, Queen of Quickcheap salutes thee!
Best Flights always have some crazy deal going to an exotic location, they are always my first stop whenever I need a cheap ticket and I am flexible with my times... they even have a 24hr call-up line based in PERTH (yes, I visually verified this!) always comforting when dealing with internet deals that seem a bit too good to be true. My best bargain from these guys was a $899 return trip to New York from Western Australia with o/n accommodation & a return flight within Malaysia, flying Malaysian Airlines & Qantas. I kept expecting to wake up in KL airport with my kidneys removed, but seriously, there was no catch.
These guys are especially great for bargain U.S. travel & round-the-world trips, but really if you're planning on going anywhere and you're flexible on timing, keep an eye on their site.
The trade-off? While they have THE most amazing products and great, friendly staff, the service isn't stellar, the staff don't always tend to know all the products and I get the feeling they are trying to get you off the phone if you want to chitchat about various deals, but with the cut-throat prices it's understandable.
Recommendation: Give the call centre people a break and trawl their website first. Know exactly where you are flexible on your trip (dates, prices, in/out locations) so you can assist them and read-up on their products on line (click on Travel Specials on the left-hand menu) so you can ask for the right flight. Also, have your credit card handy on the first call so you can snap up your bargain and seal the deal right away, sometimes it's hard to get these guys on the phone again and you might lose your flight - these specials are so spesh that they tend to sell out really quickly.
UPDATE: They must work on comission. I found out the hard way that once you have booked or got a quote with a person then no one else in the team will help you out, give you additional quotes, answer your specific questions or modify the booking. So you might want to book & pay in the one session if at all possible. Or, get all your questions answered but don't make a booking until you're ready to pay (unless you're worried it will sell out). Or... pretend you're someone else or something if you want to ask a question or get a quote on an extra leg. Sometimes it's been days before my agent has been back at their desk and I've been able to have my questions answered or booking modified. Very frustrating! But just remember how much money you're saving…. and breathe!
Let me know if you nab a bargain...
